July 2026 Monthly Adventure
Early July marks the start of the hottest days of the year in Austin, TX and the heat has officially entered the chat along with some humidity. That means I have to really focus my energy on identifying fun, indoor activities that one can enjoy solo or with a group for my Monthly Adventures Series and that ultimately led me to Plant Bingo.
Background
Surprisingly, Austin has a lot of outdoor events in the summertime. The various outdoor concert and theater events all sound very interesting but I don't want to be outside on the grass with a blanket and fighting off mosquitoes. I checked Eventbrite and quickly found suggestions for Plant Bingo that would be hosted on various dates at multiple locations across the city. One of the dates was mid-week in the evening at 1972 Pub which was perfect because I could go there immediately after my nail appointment which was only a 10-minute drive away. Plus, this would be an opportunity to combine three things that I enjoy: plants, sports, and bingo!

Tickets for Plant Bingo
I purchased my ticket for Plant Bingo hosted by Yellow Rose Soirées via Eventbrite in advance of the start of the event. In total with taxes and fees, I paid about $33. Given that everyone will walk away with a plant, this pricing is reasonable because you basically are paying for a plant and you get to have the fun experience of bingo to go along with it.
1972 Pub Parking Options
The Instagram page for 1972 Pub has a pinned post with details about parking options. There is street parking around the building that will either be paid or free depending on the day of the week and time of day. I opted for street parking because it was free by the time I arrived with plenty of open spaces and an extremely short walk to the entrance of the pub off Guadalupe Street. However, 1972 Pub has accessible parking in the back of the building along San Antonio Street. Other nearby paid parking options include a Platinum Parking lot around the corner along with the San Antonio Garage that is operated by UT Austin.
The Experience of Plant Bingo at 1972 Pub
I've followed 1972 Pub on Instagram since they first announced plans to open. The pub gets its name from the year Title IX was passed and they almost exclusively show women's sports on their tv screens. I was excited to go to Plant Bingo at this location because it would be my first time visiting 1972 Pub! Upon entering, I saw multiple WNBA games on the screens and was met with a warm, welcoming environment. I found a table with a good view of the two basketball games that were airing and the plants that would be given away as prizes during bingo. One of the wait staff quickly came by with a menu and a glass of water, and I glanced at the menu before getting checked in for bingo where I committed to winning off a single booklet because I could feel that one of the pages would result in a win. If you feel like you need more opportunities to win, additional booklets can be purchased for $5 each.
After I got checked in, I ordered The 1972 Burger from the menu which was $6 off as part of their Wednesday special. The burger is topped with a dijon mustard and mayonnaise blend, caramelized onion jam, and white cheddar and comes with a side of fries (that were absolutely delicious). I also ordered a drink from their cocktail menu called the "Babe" which had gin, Giffard Crème du Mure, lemon, and sugar. My food and drink appeared at my table shortly after ordering and I was able to enjoy my meal as bingo was getting underway.
Yellow Rose Soirée curated this Plant Bingo experience to match the theme of the 1972 Pub which I thought made this event even more fun! We had 10 rounds of bingo to play and each round was a different pattern. Prior to the start of each round, we were introduced to the plant that the winner of the round would be claim as their prize and those plants were each named after an iconic or legendary woman athlete with a short description about the plant's care written to represent what the athlete is best known for in their game. To add a little bit of razzle dazzle, three mystery boxes were thrown into the mix and winners had the option to choose between the featured winning plant for that round or a mystery box for a plant. Win or lose, everyone got a plant because there were a lot of smaller plants along the back wall for anyone that didn't win to choose from. There was also a plant raffle for those following Yellow Rose Soirée on social media.
So how did things go for me during Plant Bingo at 1972 Pub? Things really weren't looking good at first. I was barely getting anywhere close to whatever the pattern was for each round early on. As the rounds continued, my luck started to trend in the right direction and I found myself only 1-3 numbers away from getting a bingo. Finally, in the penultimate 9th round of bingo, I could feel the win was about to happen. The featured prize plant was a beautiful Swiss cheese Monstera named Carli Lloyd and I wanted that plant -- as did literally everyone else. A lady sitting next to me at a table with her friends sent positive vibes my way a couple of rounds earlier after realizing we were both dealing with similar losing situations while her friends were winning. I went to Plant Bingo solo, but everyone in the room genuinely were rooting for each other because we all love plants and bingo. The 9th round pattern was simple: 4 corners. I only had to rely on being the first to four and my will to win paid off -- I was the winner of Round 9 and the Monstera named Carli Lloyd was mine after my bingo was confirmed!!!
Wrap-Up
I was so happy to win during Plant Bingo and get the plant that I wanted the most! I have a small Monstera that I have been caring for the past couple of years and this larger plant that I won makes a great addition to the plant corner I have in my apartment. As soon as I got home, I rearranged my plant stands and the plants on them so Carli Lloyd had a place alongside the others. Plant Bingo at 1972 Pub was a good time with positive vibes and I definitely plan to go again in the future since plant bingo occurs at different locations across Austin. I'm officially 3 for 3 at bingo events in Austin and I want to make it 4 for 4. However, I'm going to need a bigger, multi-level plant stand if I'm going to get more plants which means I need to shop around for that first before returning to plant bingo. There's no such thing as too many plants!
